Björn Langpaap, Intern in Contract Management
When I chose an internship as part of my course, I decided to go to SBB Cargo International. My course, a European diploma in business and administration, focuses on law and economics, and the regulations require students to do an internship in an international company. I was given the opportunity to do a three-month internship in contract management at SBB Cargo International, which gave me an insight into the work of an internationally active company.
I had a broad range and variety of tasks. I enjoyed trust and responsibility, and felt like a true member of the sales team despite the short period of time I spent there. At the start I was given an interesting, in-depth introduction to the company in one-to-one talks with the department heads. In the time that followed, I was involved in drafting new contracts, customer meetings, evaluations, developing new contract monitoring tools and drawing up new subject areas. One of my main tasks was to create an internal training session in business administration and contract expertise, which allowed me to apply the knowledge I have acquired together with what I have learned during my studies. I also attended regular sales meetings and gained a lot of insights into current events.
I really enjoyed working in the team. My colleagues were open and helpful, which created a very pleasant working atmosphere. People in other departments were also interested and helpful, and I could always find someone to answer my questions.
For my future career I now know that I would like to work in a large team, if possible in an international company. I have been interested in the transport sector – and specifically the railway – for a long time. The preconception of static structures in railway companies is being overtaken by the progressive, vibrant way of working at SBB Cargo International. After this internship, I can very well imagine myself pursuing this career path in the future.
SBB Cargo International is a young, aspiring company with a very pleasant and positive working environment. I don't think I could have chosen a better place to do my internship. I would like to thank my colleagues at SBB Cargo International, and particularly my supervisor Cornelius Ammann, for a great three months which I found very interesting.
