Jeanette Monteiro, DICA dispatch officer training
After an almost three-year stint as a patrol organiser for Touring Club Schweiz TCS, I looked for an interesting new challenge and came across an ad for the DICA further training course at SBB Cargo International. At my interview I was already given a brief insight into the work at the dispatch centre, and was immediately fascinated. A few days later, my place on the further training course was confirmed.
With its mix of theory and practice days, the course was very varied: you had the opportunity to translate what you had learned in theory into practice. But since I was totally new to the railway industry, the first few months at the dispatch centre were very difficult for me. My colleagues always took time to answer my questions, however, and never left me in the lurch.
What I particularly like about my new job as a DICA dispatch officer is that it sometimes gets quite hectic and that good solutions have to be found quickly. Something else I have enjoyed is my colleagues' openness. I am also impressed by my supervisors' receptiveness to suggestions for improvements.
I have now settled in very well here and am looking forward to my next in-house traineeship at SBB Cargo International.
