SBB Cargo International founds SBB Cargo Nederland B.V.
SBB Cargo International has established SBB Cargo Nederland. From the 2019/2020 timetable change, SBB Cargo International will operate its first services entirely in-house. The establishment of a wholly owned subsidiary will further strengthen the position of SBB Cargo International. Subsidiaries already exist in Germany and Italy. Quality will be improved thanks to cross-border execution and planning of trains on the entire Netherlands-Italy axis. At the same time, dependence on third parties will be reduced. SBB Cargo International will continue to rely on its long-standing cooperation partners such as shunting service providers.
Freek Hilkemeijer is the new Managing Director of SBB Cargo Nederland B.V. He has 20 years experience in the rail sector, having worked for HTRS Nederland until 2013 as Manager Operation and Manager Quality, Safety & Environment, among other things, and has been running his own consultancy firm, Rail Competence B.V., since 2014. "Freek Hilkemeijer has been advising us in this role for a long time and knows our company well. We are therefore all the more pleased that we were able to get Freek enthusiastic about the position," said Sven Flore CEO of SBB Cargo International AG at the signing of the contract in Olten at the end of November.
Based on proven and professional recruitment, the Dutch subsidiary will be able to recruit its own locomotive drivers locally. Interoperable train drivers from SBB Cargo Deutschland will be deployed initially.
The new company will be based at Albert Plesmanweg 107B in Rotterdam from 1 January 2020.
With this step, SBB Cargo International is implementing another milestone on its successful path and reaffirms its market leadership of almost 40 percent on the north-south axis through Switzerland.
